This is a real shade study, computed in your browser the way the app computes it on your phone: a north-facing town garden in Hertfordshire, a house of two storeys, a garage, and the neighbour's ash. Change the season.

Every plant carries its soil, light, moisture, hardiness, size at one, five and ten years, flowering months, care tasks and nursery price. The matcher scores each one for your site and your taste, then penalises the ubiquitous and rewards character in proportion to your appetite for it.
Three gardens from every brief. No two clients get the same one.
The local vernacular comes from your coordinates: brick and flint here, limestone there. A per-garden seed jitters the tie-breaks, so identical briefs on identical plots still diverge.

Humphry Repton followed Capability Brown as the leading landscape designer in England. Where Brown moved earth, Repton drew. Each client received a book bound in red morocco: watercolours of the estate as it was, with flaps that lifted to reveal the estate as it might become, and a written argument for the change.
